Epic Games seeks a Technical Art Director to lead a tools- and performance-focused technical art team, building pipelines, rendering solutions, and enabling artists to create scalable Unreal Engine content. You will oversee scheduling and priorities, drive optimization initiatives across a growing content library and code base, and collaborate across engineering and art stakeholders. Plan and execute tools to support artist workflows in Unreal Engine 5, mentor and grow the technical art team, and advocate rendering techniques to achieve visual parity across platforms. This role combines leadership, technical depth in rendering, and cross-disciplinary collaboration within a creative, EPIC environment.

What You'll Do Epic Games is seeking a Technical Art Director to help run our tools and performance-oriented technical art team. You’ll build tools, pipelines, and rendering solutions that empower artists to create beautiful, efficient, and scalable content in Unreal Engine. In this role, you will Oversee a team of dedicated tools and performance-oriented tech artists, maintaining scheduling, tasking priority, and facilitating communication with various departments. Lead teams to develop new tools/processes for finding optimization opportunities and actioning on them within a continuously growing content library and code base Driving complex initiatives based on emerging performance, tooling, and development needs Create new paradigms for budgeting content to support diverse game modes and platforms. Plan and execute tools to support artist workflows in Unreal Engine 5 Advise and demonstrate proper rendering techniques to bring visual parity across all platforms in an affordable way. Includes in-depth knowledge of rendering pipelines, material creation, lighting, and post-processing Work closely with engineering and art owners of many different parts of the ecosystem to promote collaboration and reduce duplicate work What we're looking for Proven experience leading or directing technical art for real-time projects across multi-platform pipelines Deep understanding of Unreal Engine’s rendering pipeline, materials, and profiling tools Strong collaboration and communication skills across disciplines Ability to mentor and grow technical art teams, fostering both creative and technical excellence Experienced in programming theory and scripting (i.e., Python) Experience not only in the analysis of profiling data (i.e., PIX, Insights), but also proactive in capturing performance data to find optimization opportunities and gains EPIC JOB + EPIC BENEFITS = EPIC LIFE Our intent is to cover all things that are medically necessary and improve the quality of life.
