Jane Street is seeking an experienced Macro Analyst to overlay quantitative and fundamental macro analysis onto core trading strategies. The role involves preparing coverage for scheduled and unanticipated macro events, producing rapid expected-value (EV) estimates, and communicating valuation changes and trade ideas to global trading teams. You will engage with traders and external sell-side contacts, aggregate research, and run longer-term data-driven macro research, with programming skills (e.g., Python) a plus.

About the Position

We are looking for an experienced Macro Analyst to help our global trading team develop innovative ways to overlay quantitative and fundamental analysis onto Jane Street’s core trading strategies. Our day-to-day work is diverse, and your focus on global macro topics will help us expand our trading opportunities.

Responsibilities of this role will include but are not limited to:

  • Helping to prepare coverage of macro fundamental events and special situations
    • Conducting scenario EVs and analysis for scheduled macro events
    • Giving real-time EVs for unanticipated macro news; precisely and rapidly communicating valuation changes and investment theses to our global trading teams
  • Engaging in detailed, technical discussions with traders by providing macro updates and quantitative analyses, presenting your logic and reasoning grounded in data, numbers, probabilities, and statistical insights, and addressing any follow-up questions with clarity and precision
  • Interacting with sell-side sales and research contacts globally, aggregating broker notes, and developing and summarizing opinions (having your own broker contacts is a plus)
  • Running longer-term research on specific macro topics, ranging from correctly framing the questions and gathering the data (both by talking to external people and looking up historical data), to analyzing the findings and coming up with well-reasoned conclusions and recommendations (both quantitative and qualitative)

About You

  • Have a strong quantitative background and command of probability
  • Able to comfortably work and communicate with traders in a fast-paced environment, and explain and defend your thinking to a variety of audiences (turnaround time for an answer on a concrete EV number could be under 5 minutes)
  • Have 3+ years of experience covering macro within trading, financial services, or governmental institutions
  • Have some regional expertise in Asia / China
  • Current with relevant published research and comfortable pushing into less explored areas
  • Able to work nimbly and combine datasets, statistical models, and broader economic understanding to tackle big questions
  • Skills in programming (e.g., Python) are a plus
  • Fluency in English required; proficiency in Asian languages preferred (particularly Mandarin Chinese)

If you're a recruiting agency and want to partner with us, please reach out to agency-partnerships@janestreet.com.
