Senior Lead Software Engineer on the Markets Technology CEM Swaps team responsible for designing and delivering secure, scalable Python-based solutions for market risk, pricing, and trade management. The role focuses on Athena, a distributed, data-intensive platform, and requires experience with distributed/event-driven systems and high-performance production code. You will provide technical guidance, influence product and architecture decisions, and promote firm-wide engineering practices across teams.

As a Sr Lead Software Engineer- Python / Distributed Computing at JPMorgan Chase within the Commercial and Investment Bank- Markets Technology within CEM Swaps Team, you'll serve as a seasoned member of an agile team to design and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. You are responsible for carrying out critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm’s business objectives.
This team works on development of Athena, a Python based Market Risk, pricing, and trade management platform. Athena is designed to enable rapid innovation on the desk by offering Technologists, Quantitative Analysts and Risk Managers a consistent, cross-asset portfolio of models, frameworks and tools to use in building financial applications.
Required qualifications, capabilities and skills
- Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience
- Strong analytical development skills, solid understanding of computer science fundamentals and experience in real-time, resilient, high performance and/or risk and pricing and/or eTrading areas
- Regularly provides technical guidance and direction to support the business and its technical teams, contractors, and vendors
- Demonstrated experience working on distributed systems and with distributed computing on data intensive applications
- Experience working on event driven systems, including strong architecture design
- Develops secure and high-quality production code, and reviews and debugs code written by others
- Drives decisions that influence the product design, application functionality, and technical operations and processes
- Actively contributes to the engineering community as an advocate of firm wide frameworks, tools, and practices of the Software Development Life Cycle
- Influences peers and project decision-makers to consider the use and application of leading-edge technologies
- Creative, quick-thinking, pragmatic, with an aptitude for solving problems with technology and an ability to quickly translate requirements into a sound technical design and implementation
- Solid understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Applicant Resiliency, and Security
Preferred qualifications, capabilities and skills
- Strong Python
- Experience with SecDB / Athena / Quartz platform.
- Experience working in large mono-repo codebases, where code often rolls out to production within minutes
- Familiarity with Investment Banking, FinTech or Financial Markets
- Knowledge of GraphQL is good to have.
