Lead the technical implementation of non-functional testing and quality engineering controls across the technology lifecycle with a strong emphasis on performance, latency, scalability, resilience, system-level analysis, and Python-based test automation. Develop and execute performance, load, stress, endurance, and resilience testing programmes to ensure systems meet latency, throughput, and stability targets. Design test approaches for API, integration, and backend validation using Python and UNIX/Linux toolsets, and embed continuous performance testing into CI/CD pipelines while mentoring teams on complex system-level issues.
Position Summary
This role is responsible for leading the technical implementation of non-functional testing and quality engineering controls across the technology lifecycle, with a strong emphasis on performance, latency, scalability, resilience, system-level analysis, and Python-based test automation. The role requires deep understanding of UNIX/Linux operating systems, networking, and distributed systems, ensuring technology solutions meet stringent performance and reliability requirements aligned with business and customer needs.
Role Responsibilities
- Responsible for the technical implementation of performance and non-functional quality controls, providing mentorship where complex system-level issues arise.
- Develops and executes performance, load, stress, endurance, and resilience testing programmes across the entire technology lifecycle, ensuring systems meet required latency, throughput, and stability expectations.
- Leads a wide range of non-functional quality control planning and execution activities in alignment with organisational standards and strategy.
- Captures non-functional testing requirements by evaluating product requirement specifications and raises clarifications with product owners, business analysts, architects, and engineering teams.
- Designs and reviews test approaches and test scripts for API, integration, and backend system validation using Python and UNIX/Linux-based toolsets.
- Supervises the execution and analysis of performance, latency, resilience, and operational readiness tests, ensuring identified issues are resolved in collaboration with engineering and infrastructure teams.
- Recommends and implements improvements to non-functional testing frameworks, processes, tooling, and best practices.
- Ensures that non-functional aspects of a product/service meet or exceed required standards and objectives to achieve the desired level of quality.
- Applies modern engineering and DevOps practices to embed continuous performance and resilience testing into CI/CD pipelines.
- Maintains documentation to describe system behaviour, architectural decisions, performance models, and test outcomes, including detailed analysis of system and network-level findings.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- 6+ years of experience in Software Quality Engineering, including strong exposure to non-functional and system-level testing.
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent.
- ISTQB certification or equivalent qualification is an advantage.
- Strong experience in non-functional testing including Latency, performance, load, stress and resilience testing.
- Proficiency in Python, Perl or Go for test automation, data validation, and backend/API testing.
- Hands-on expertise with SQL and strong understanding of relational database concepts, including query optimisation, data validation, and troubleshooting database performance behaviours.
- In-depth expertise with UNIX/Linux operating systems, including system monitoring, process analysis, I/O, kernel-level metrics, and performance profiling.
- Strong knowledge of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, routing, latency analysis, packet flow, and network troubleshooting using tools such as tcpdump and Wireshark.
- Experience with tools such as JMeter, Locust, Gatling, k6, or equivalent performance engineering tools.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab, Jenkins, Azure DevOps), containerisation (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes).
- Good knowledge of software quality assurance processes, agile methodologies, and distributed system architectures.
- Ability to translate sophisticated technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across cultures, languages, and technical disciplines.
- Proven experience working in environments with real-time, low-latency, or high-throughput systems; financial domain experience is an advantage.
- Knowledge of integration patterns, messaging technologies, and backend system communication across applications and platforms.
- Demonstrated ability for continuous self‑learning, staying updated with emerging technologies, tools, performance engineering practices, and industry trends.
- Relevant certifications are considered an added advantage, including but not limited to AWS Solutions Architect, Red Hat System Administration, Oracle High Availability certifications, Other cloud, networking, database, or system engineering certifications
