The Red Hat IT team is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join the Identity and Access Management group. This role focuses on supporting core identity infrastructure, including authentication, authorization, and full account lifecycle management to uphold the principle of least privilege. You will write Ansible provisioning and Python scripts, manage Linux systems, and design/integrate infrastructure on AWS and OpenShift, while leading small projects and mentoring junior engineers.

The Red Hat Information Technology (IT) team is seeking a highly motivated Senior Systems Engineer to join the Identity and Access Management team.

This critical role is responsible for supporting the core identity infrastructure at Red Hat, encompassing authentication, authorization, and the complete account lifecycle management for all employees. The goal is to ensure the principle of least privilege is upheld: the right people have the right access to the right resources at the right time.

As a core member of a team consisting of software developers and system engineers, you will be responsible for fulfilling the organization's evolving identity requirements. This role demands a self-directed, self-organizing leadership mindset and the ability to work on complex technical projects for extended periods of time with little supervision, teaching yourself any needed skills along the way.

Stakeholders and teammates will present novel problems to you and you will be expected to gather requirements, organize and prioritize your work and then present to them proposed solutions. Once a solution is chosen, you will be required to learn how it will integrate with other complex offerings and then: design, document, build and support the new solution while reporting progress and adhering to timelines.

We are looking for someone who is eager to "wear multiple hats," embrace continuous learning, and enjoys deep, collaborative teamwork.

What will you do:

  • Write ansible provisioning and configuration management roles and playbooks

  • Write and maintain automation scripts and simple middleware applications written in Ansible, Python and Bash

  • Apply systems administration expertise to manage Linux operating systems and the applications running within them.

  • Independently lead and manage small-scale, long-running technical projects. Proactively acquire the necessary skills to ensure project success, leveraging your self-starter nature and leadership capabilities.

  • Architect, design, document, support and build infrastructure in AWS and OpenShift

  • Maintain uptime and required performance profiles for products and technologies

  • Mentor, train and provide code reviews to junior associates

  • Provide consultation advice to internal teams that want to use our identity systems

  • Write and maintain documentation

What will you bring:

  • Proven Ansible and Python experience.

  • 5+ years of experience as a system administrator in a Linux environment. RHSA and RHCE certifications or equivalent are required

  • An ability to be self-directed and the desire to contentiously learn

  • A desire to collaborate with others

  • A history of building and maintaining complex systems from the ground up

  • Excellent documentation and training skills

  • Daily practical experience with: git, AWS and containers

  • Basic understanding of: networking, storage, WAFs, DNS

  • Strong communication (written and verbal)

  • Ability to manage multiple, simultaneous work streams

  • Experience working inside of an Agile/scrum methodology

  • Nice to have / must be willing to learn: advanced programming skills. Java, complex python applications.

  • Nice to have / must be willing to learn: IAM technologies. SAML, OpenID Connect, Oauth, LDAP, Kerberos, MFA, PKI, FreeIPA, Keycloak, Red Hat Directory Server, Red Hat Certificate System, Hashicorp Vault, RADIUS
