Senior DBA role providing advanced database administration across production, test, and development environments on multiple platforms, with Oracle, SQL Server, and AWS expertise. Join a global Operational DBA team delivering 24x7 coverage and contributing to modernization and migrations to AWS. Responsibilities include incident management, change review, on-call duties, and mentoring staff, with a focus on high availability, disaster recovery, and secure database design.

Provides advanced level database administrator (DBA) services for production, test, and development databases across multiple platforms. Provides senior level physical database design, creation, and maintenance services.

Join a global Operational DBA team responsible for supporting all databases at Vanguard. Our team spans the U.S. (day shift) and Australia (night shift), working together to deliver seamless 24×7 coverage. As part of the U.S. day shift team, you’ll play a critical role in modernizing our on-premises footprint and driving migrations to AWS. This position combines strong Oracle and SQL expertise with advanced AWS skills to design and operate highly available, resilient environments.

What you’ll do:

Responsibilities:

  • Provides advanced level DBA services and performs physical database design and development for large business applications and databases.
  • Develops and maintains database logs and bug lists. Understands the business requirements for applications and implements supporting database technical capabilities.
  • Performs database administration for mid-tier server databases. Performs day to day monitoring and optimizing, and provides developer support for creation of databases, tables, and indexes. Builds backup and recovery jobs.
  • Identifies opportunities for continuous quality improvement of technical standards, processes, and technologies. Utilizes logical models to ensure efficient and reliable database performance.
  • Reviews application designs for compliance with production acceptance requirements. Develops and maintains policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of a database.
  • Trains and mentors staff. Resolves complex issues elevated from staff with less experience.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years database administrator, data modeling, business systems analyst, development, or related work experience.
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field or the equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Advanced database administration in Oracle, SQL Server and associated using high availability (Oracle RAC, SQL Server Availability Groups) and disaster recovery tools (Oracle Dataguard).
  • Advanced database administration in AWS for Postgres, DynamoDB, MySQL, and RedShift with highly available environments and failover/ DR solutions.
  • Linux system administration, including Redhat-based systems like Centos or Oracle Linux, monitoring systems - developing scripts and using applications to monitor systems and databases and Support development teams in tasks related to database including performance tuning, DB migration to new platform, assistance to DB query and structure definition.
