Join Barclays as a Data Modeller to support the Data Services team within Shared Platform Engineering, delivering high-quality data solutions across Current Accounts, Payments and Lending. You will translate business data requirements into logical data models, and support database changes to bring those models to life. Coaching in data modelling techniques, ER Studio, and SQL will be provided, with opportunities to progress into related IT roles such as Solution Architect or Business Analyst.

Join us as a Data Modeller, to support our Data Services team within Shared Platform Engineering as we deliver high‑quality data solutions across the Current Accounts, Payments and Lending business. You will work closely with project and platform teams to understand data requirements, translate them into logical data models, and support the database changes that bring those models to life.

Coaching will be provided in the fundamentals of data modelling techniques and in the use of the ER Studio modelling tool. You will also receive training in SQL to work with database tables, along with guidance on using tools such as Jira and Confluence to help track and document project activities. This experience offers foundation for developing your skills and can support progression into other related roles in IT, such as Solution Architect or Business Analyst.

To be successful as a Data Modeller, you should have experience with:

  • A genuine interest in IT Engineering and a curiosity about data, paired with an eagerness to learn and seek guidance when helpful.
  • An organised and dependable approach to tasks, with the ability to stay focused when completing work individually.
  • Clear and approachable communication skills, with the ability to share ideas effectively and work well with others.
  • A willingness to support different activities, contribute where needed, and work effectively as part of a team.

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • Financial Services knowledge or experience, particularly where it helps you understand how data is used in real‑world processes.
  • Data Modelling knowledge or experience, with an interest in developing these skills further.
  • A collaborative and supportive approach, with a focus on contributing to shared goals and helping the team succeed.
  • Previous experience as a Data Modeller or Data Analyst within large, wide‑scale organisations, which can provide helpful insight into working with data across different teams.

This role will be based in Knutsford.

Purpose of the role

To design, implement, and maintain conceptual, Logical and Physical data models that meet business data/process and technology requirements, by using designs and data strategies across a wide selection of platforms. 

Accountabilities

  • Analysis and documentation of business requirements to translate them into data models aligned with organisational goals.
  • Development and maintenance of data dictionaries and glossaries to define data elements and their usage.
  • Analysis and monitoring of data usage patterns to identify opportunities for data optimisation and improvement, in partnership with the Data Base Administrator.
  • Strategic architecture definition and product selection.
  • Production of logical designs in relevant subject area (technical, data, operational), showing for example: processes, objects, data flows, inputs, stored data and outputs. Identifying common components.
  • Implementation of architectures and Identification, ownership and resolution of design related issues.
  • Definition and documentation of data architectures standards, principles and strategies.
