The Surveillance Tuning Expert will enhance and optimize the firm's trade surveillance systems by tuning, calibration, and model refinement to improve alert accuracy and reduce false positives. The Surveillance Tuning Expert will play a key role in enhancing and optimizing the firm’s trade surveillance systems. The individual will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness of alert generation through systematic tuning, calibration, and model refinement. This position is ideal for a professional with deep technical expertise in surveillance platforms (e.g., Scila, SMARTS, or TT Score), strong analytical skills, and a deep understanding of market abuse risks, conduct monitoring, and regulatory requirements.

  • Alert Optimization & Tuning
    • Evaluate existing surveillance models and alert parameters to identify opportunities for performance improvement.
    • Conduct systematic tuning exercises to reduce false positives and ensure optimal detection of true risk events.
    • Apply data-driven methodologies and quantitative analysis to assess rule thresholds, data feeds, and scenario logic.
  • Model Performance Analysis
    • Develop metrics and dashboards to monitor surveillance model performance, precision, recall, and false positive ratios.
    • Conduct back-testing, sample reviews, and trend analysis to validate rule effectiveness.
    • Collaborate with global compliance teams to support model enhancements or machine learning implementations.
  • Data Quality & Governance
    • Partner with technology teams to identify and resolve data integrity issues impacting alert quality.
    • Review source systems and feeds to ensure complete and accurate capture of trading data.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration
    • Work closely with global Compliance Officers teams to define model requirements and tuning objectives.
    • Document tuning methodologies, assumptions, and validation outcomes in accordance with regulatory and audit expectations.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in financial markets surveillance, compliance analytics, or risk monitoring.
  • Proven expertise with surveillance platforms such as Scila, Nasdaq SMARTS, or TT Score.
  • Strong SQL, Python, or data analysis skills for performance tuning and rule calibration.
  • Deep understanding of market abuse scenarios, insider trading detection, and communications monitoring.
  • Ability to interpret complex datasets and translate insights into actionable improvements.

Preferred:

  • Experience with machine learning or AI-based surveillance enhancement.
  • Prior experience at a global investment bank, broker-dealer, or regulatory authority.
  • Knowledge of trade lifecycle, order management systems, and data lineage.
