Caxton Associates’ primary business is to manage client and proprietary capital through global macro hedge fund strategies.  As part of our continued growth, we are establishing a new office in Bangalore, India. This office will play a critical role in supporting our trading, research, and operations globally. 

About the role:
We are seeking an experienced hands-on Database and Reporting Lead to build and lead our Bangalore database development function. This individual will both manage a small team of database specialists and remain hands-on in database design, development, and optimization.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the fund’s data infrastructure is robust, scalable, and aligned with business needs. They will also oversee reporting and analytics delivery in Tableau, while driving improvements in data quality, performance, and usability. Some experience with cloud technologies (AWS RDS) is essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the hands-on technical lead for database and reporting development in Bangalore.
  • Partner closely with the Technology team, Quant and Risk teams to develop and refine database, reporting and analytics solutions.
  • Design, build, and optimize PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server databases, including schemas, stored procedures, functions, and indexing.
  • Work with Amazon RDS, Aurora PostgreSQL and S3 to build scalable, resilient data platforms.
  • Design and maintain ETL pipelines for trades, positions, pricing, and reference data using Python and SQL.
  • Build and maintain database-driven reports, dashboards, and analytics using Tableau.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and high availability across environments.
  • Monitor and optimize database performance, identifying slow queries, indexing strategies, and query plans.
  • Manage and mentor a small team of database developers and reporting specialists.
  • Implement and oversee database maintenance processes including backups, restores, disaster recovery, and access controls.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation of database structures, processes, and best practices.

 

Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience working extensively with relational databases in a hands-on capacity.
  • Strong expertise in PostgreSQL, with solid experience in Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Expertise in performance tuning, query optimization, indexing strategies, and troubleshooting database performance issues.
  • Practical experience using Python for database automation, ETL, and data transformation.
  • Experience building reports and dashboards using Tableau.
  • Experience working with AWS RDS, Aurora PostgreSQL, and Amazon S3.
  • Proven experience in leading / managing teams in a high-performance environment.
  • Experience with Iceberg table architectures (AWS-managed or open-source) is a strong advantage.
  • Familiarity with Parquet based data formats is a plus.
  • Proven ability to lead technically, mentor others, and collaborate with senior stakeholders.
  • Experience in database maintenance tasks, backups, restores, security management, and disaster recovery.
  • Experience in financial services environments is preferred.
