Consultant, Business Analysis

The Fidelity Insurance Group (FIG) Technology team is a small, growing team in Enterprise Services with a 'Start Up' feel. We are seeking an upbeat, hardworking Senior Business Analyst to join our organization as we grow and pave our path forward. We will have a focus on modernizing and building innovative and cloud-native experiences, capabilities, and platforms in support of millions of customers who are seeking products that provide guaranteed income and/or protection. We are an emerging group in Fidelity with strategic financial backing.

The Role

The Business Analyst Consultant plays a critical role in bridging business needs with technology solutions. This position is responsible for analyzing complex business processes and integrations, define systems and business requirements, interact with external software systems, analyze data structures, and support our production systems (as needed), identifying improvement opportunities, and delivering actionable insights to support strategic objectives. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and experience working with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Requirements Gathering & Analysis:
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to elicit, document, and validate business requirements.
    • Translate business needs into functional specifications and user stories.
  • Process Improvement:
    • Analyze existing workflows and recommend enhancements to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
    • Develop process maps and documentation for current and future state processes.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting:
    • Perform data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights that inform business decisions.
    • Create dashboards, reports, and presentations for executive stakeholders.
  • Project Support:
    • Act as a liaison between business units and technical teams throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Support testing, training, and implementation activities for new systems or enhancements.
  • Stakeholder Management:
    • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and successful delivery of initiatives.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • 10+ years of total systems and business analysis experience
  • Skilled at translating business vision into defined and prioritized user stories for team’s backlog
  • Ability to understand complex customer needs, translate them into user stories with concrete acceptance criteria, and drive solution formulation with a multi-functional team
  • Customer-obsessed and have demonstrated a commitment to delivering frequent, high business value features
  • Moderate to advanced knowledge of tools and techniques for presenting and analyzing data including SQL, Access, Excel, relational databases, XML, JSON, XSD, Postman/Insomnia and SQL developer
  • Affinity for data; where to get it, how to use it, what it means
  • Proficiency in tools such as SQL, Excel, and BI platforms (Power BI, Tableau)
  • Ability to understand the technology and software architecture of an application
  • Skilled at translating business vision into defined and prioritized user stories for team’s backlog
  • Ability to understand complex customer needs, translate them into user stories with concrete acceptance criteria, and drive solution formulation with a multi-functional team
  • Self-starter, team-focused, independent, collaborative, and can work with minimum supervision
  • Demonstrable expertise in system analysis methodologies and techniques, including data analysis, use case development, story writing, testing, and product documentation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; Communicates clearly, concisely, and impactfully to influence others
  • You effectively and regularly lead, facilitate, and drive individuals and group meetings
  • Skilled at building relationships, fostering strong teams, and influencing others
  • You are a self-motivated, great teammate with the ability to plan and complete work independently, and partner effectively to handle dependencies
  • Providing consulting, support, and guidance to leadership, squad members, and other relevant partners to influence culture and behaviors
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills and adapting to organizational changes
  • Approaches work with an open mind and sense of creativity by challenging current practices and recommending improvements
  • Ability to navigate through ambiguous circumstances and demonstrate flexibility and adaptability
  • Growth mentality with a passion for continuous learning and development
  • Providing consulting, support, and guidance to leadership, team members, and other relevant partners to influence culture and behaviors
  • Experience within the financial services industry (especially life insurance) is a plus
  • A Bachelor’s degree, in Business, Finance, Accounting, Information Technology, or Management Information Systems, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Certification such as CBAP, PMI-PBA, or Agile BA is a plus

We partner with internal FIG stakeholders and multiple organizations across Fidelity, most notably the Fidelity Insurance Agency (FIA) to deliver modern solutions that scale.
