The Database Administrator is responsible for managing all aspects of HSBC Qianhai's databases to ensure production stability, recoverability and compliance. Key duties include level 1 support, database design and administration (installation, configuration, security, backup/recovery), monitoring, performance tuning and high-availability management. The role participates in projects from technical evaluation to implementation, works with Group DBAs, system administrators and vendors, and implements best practices to meet regulatory and audit requirements. Strong scripting, troubleshooting and stakeholder communication skills are required.

HSBC Qianhai Securities Limited (HSBC Qianhai), a joint venture securities company, was incorporated on 28 August 2017, pursuant to Supplementary Agreement X to the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangements (CEPA) between the mainland and Hong Kong.

The registered capital of HSBC Qianhai is RMB1.8 billion. The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC) holds 90% of the shares, while Qianhai Financial Holdings Co., Ltd. Principal Accountabilities:

The database administrator is responsible for all aspects of databases in HSBC Qianhai, to ensure the stability of the production environment; evaluate potential solutions; demonstrate, implement and commission selected products.

• Provide level 1support for all databases.

• Provide databases administration including database structures design, software installation and troubleshooting, database configuration and security, backup and recovery, monitoring, performance and tuning.

• Perform tasks on creation, maintenance of high availability production environment by ensuring problems are identified and resolved quickly, building resiliency, managing capacity and business continuity planning.

• Develop an understanding of the business systems and their associated database requirements.

• Lead/Participate in projects starting from the technical evaluations initiation phase to determine impact on existing systems, provide inputs on risks, performance, and optimization.

• Implement good planning and resource forecasting techniques.

• Work with Group DBA to adopt best practices, ensure database configurations and procedures comply with regulatory and internal audit and processing requirements.

• Guarantee database recoverability by working with system administrators to manage the scheduling of system backups and data archive operations in conjunction with Data Centre Operations.

To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements:

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience providing database administrative services in an enterprise environment.

• As required by the Chinese regulator CSRC, the role holder must pass the securities industry qualification exam (the exam is in Chinese only).

Language capability

• Fully fluent in Chinese and English, both in speaking and writing.

Experience

• Demonstrated ability in at least one or more of the following database technologies: Oracle, SQL Server, DB2 etc, Oracle is mandatory.

• Understanding of high availability technology solutions.

• Good knowledge of database installation, security management, backup and recovery, capacity and performance management, replication, troubleshooting

• Basic understanding on Windows/Linux OS.

• Ability to automate tasks with scripting.

• Experience of working with vendor and regional team preferred.

• Experience with domestic innovative database is preferred.

• Experience in financial industry preferred.

Skills

• Able to respond to regulatory and exchange inquiries and communications.

• Able to prioritize work to successfully deliver service to agreed levels in a diverse and constantly changing technical environment.

• Effectively co-ordinate delivery of services involving elements delivered by other internal/external teams.

• Demonstrated ability to rapidly build relationships with key stakeholders.

• Strong analytical, problem solving and time management skills.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Self-motivated and able to work under pressure.
