Senior Manager of Software Engineering responsible for leading and coaching multiple technical teams within the Commercial & Investment Bank, driving technical direction, operational efficiency, and cross-team collaboration. The role requires hands-on expertise in backend systems, APIs, databases, observability and automation, with accountability for technical decisions, budgets, and delivery of complex work. As a Senior Manager of Software Engineering at JPMorganChase within the Commercial & Investment Bank, you serve in a leadership role by providing technical coaching and advisory for multiple technical teams, as well as anticipate the needs and potential dependencies of other functions within the firm. Job responsibilities

  • Provide overall direction, oversight, and coaching for a team of entry-level to mid-level software engineers that work on basic to moderately complex tasks
  • Be accountable for decisions that influence teams’ resources, budget, tactical operations, and the execution and implementation of processes and procedures
  • Ensures successful collaboration across teams and stakeholders
  • Leads communities of practice across Software Engineering to drive awareness and use of new and leading-edge technologies
  • Executes creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems
  • Develops secure high-quality production code, and reviews and debugs code written by others
  • Identifies opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve overall operational stability of software applications and systems
  • Interpret technical and business objectives, identifying challenges and providing innovative solutions to address them
  • Identifies and mitigates issues to execute a book of work while escalating issues as necessary
  • Provides input to leadership regarding budget, approach, and technical considerations to improve operational efficiencies and functionality for the team
  • Creates a culture of diversity, opportunity, inclusion, and respect for team members and prioritizes diverse representation

 

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on Software Engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience
  • Experience leading teams of technologists to manage and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise
  • Strong background in UNIX, Apache Tomcat, Databases Management, and Oracle SQL
  • Experience in writing and maintaining REST / SOAP Based APIs
  • Understanding of observability tools such as Splunk, Dynatrace, or Grafana
  • Demonstrated ability to debug complex systems and drive technical discussions independently
  • Proficiency in automation and continuous delivery methods
  • Ability to guide and coach teams on approach to achieve goals aligned against a set of strategic initiatives
  • Experience with hiring, developing, and recognizing talent
  • In-depth knowledge of the services industry and their IT systems
  • Experience in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field and expertise in technology disciplines

 

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Experience in working in a highly regulated environment / industry
  • Proven experience in designing distributed applications in Agile environment
  • Experience with Sanctions Domain and/or familiarity with Sanctions Screening solutions, Pega PRPC workflows
  • Exposure to full software development lifecycle in large-scale systems, preferably within the financial industry
