Seeking an experienced Visual Designer to drive the strategic evolution of the Books shopping and Kindle visual experience. Lead complex cross-team design initiatives and develop scalable design systems that elevate the entire Books organization. Mentor designers and present strategic design solutions to senior leadership, balancing creative vision with business and customer rationale. Key job responsibilities
* Define and drive the long-term visual strategy for Books shopping and Kindle reading experiences across surfaces, balancing customer needs with business goals and technical constraints
* Lead complex design initiatives that require coordination across multiple teams and disciplines
* Develop scalable design systems and frameworks that enable force multiplication across the Books organization
* Identify and solve ambiguous design challenges where strategy and solutions are not clearly defined
* Drive organizational adoption of visual design best practices and standards
* Present strategic design solutions to senior leadership, articulating both creative vision and business & customer rationale
* Actively mentor and develop others while fostering an inclusive design culture
* Make strategic trade-off decisions balancing short-term needs versus long-term sustainability
A day in the life
As a Senior Visual Designer at Amazon Books, you'll drive strategic visual initiatives while balancing hands-on creative work. You'll lead design reviews with cross-functional partners to align visual direction for reading features and present strategic vision and mood boards to senior stakeholders. Your role includes mentoring designers, creating and validating visual and communication elements such as typography and color palettes for various lighting conditions, defining specifications for scalable graphic asset production, identifying and solving for creative opportunity across UX, brand, and marketing.
Your work will directly influence how millions of readers interact with their books, making reading more engaging and accessible across Amazon's reading experiences.

We are part of the 70+ person Research and Design Studio within the Books organization, where our mission is to inspire readers by making it easy to read more and get more out of reading. On our direct team we support central Books creative needs as well as Kindle and Author/Publishing experiences, while fostering an inclusive environment where creative minds can thrive and innovate together.

Basic Qualifications
- 8+ years of design experience- Have an available online portfolio
- Experience art directing motion designers, illustrators, writers and content creators
- Experience partnering with technical partners for design implementation
- Experience in visual design demonstrated through design concepts, case studies, documentation, mockups and style guides
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of marketing fundamentals and ability to implement them to create dynamic advertising solutions- Knowledge of typographic and brand design principles
- Experience in a broad range of software design approaches and common UX patterns.
- Experience in animation and motion design, a bonus

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
